The California Naturalist program uses a science curriculum, hands-on learning, problem-solving, citizen science, and community service to instill a deep appreciation for the natural communities of the state and to inspire individuals to become stewards of their local resources. The program promotes environmental literacy and stewardship through discovery and action. Courses combine classroom and field experience in science, problem-solving, communication training and community service. Students are taught by an instructor and team of experts who are affiliated with a local nature-based center, state or regional park, natural resource focused agency, and more.

This modified course will also include areas of focus around state park and vocational pathways for those who are interested.

Dates: September 15th - Novemeber 17th 2025
Every Monday: 11:30am pm - 2:30 pm

All lessons will be on Monday. There will also be 2-3 field trips, which will not be on Mondays. Field trips will be on dates TBD and may include 1 or more Saturday dates. Attending 2 field trips is required.

Cancellation Policy: Registrants may cancel up to two weeks prior to the first day of instruction for a full refund minus a $50 administration fee. Cancellations occurring less than two weeks prior to course start date are not eligible for a refund.

If you plan to earn a California Naturalist certification through this course you are allowed to miss ONLY ONE class. Please check course dates meeting times and read cancellation policy carefully before registering!

Resources: The California Naturalist Handbook by Greg de Nevers, Deborah Stanger Edelman, Adina Merenlender. The UC California Naturalist program will cover this handbook. Participants to purchase out of pocket to read during the course of the program.
