Grades: 2 - 6

A comprehensive experience presented in your classroom AND at William B. Pond Recreation Area introducing students to a world of aquatic invertebrates living in our local freshwater habitats. The classroom lab program offers a PowerPoint presentation and four investigative stations featuring a variety of aquatic invertebrates. In the field, students collect and release a myriad of creatures while gaining an understanding of their role in the food web and ecosystem.

Available September through October and March through May.
75-minute program in your classroom and a 2-hour field study (on a different day).
Field studies are held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

This program will touch upon the following Next Generation Science Standards:
NGSS: LS1.B, LS2.A, LS2.C, LS4.C, LS4.D, ESS3.A, ESS3.C

Each program is limited to 35 students, or one class. If more than 2 classroom labs are needed in the same day, please contact Brena at brenas@sacnaturecenter.net or 916-875-3962 to arrange a schedule.

A teacher must be present in the classroom during the lab.

For the classroom lab, if your school is located more than 30 miles round trip from the Nature Center, there will be an additional fee to cover the extra travel time/costs.

Part two of the Pond and River package. 2-hour field study held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Parking passes are included for participants, and for any drivers who transport students but who are not attending the program.

This program does not include a snack break or meal period. Please plan to eat before or after the program.

Each program is limited to 35 students and 8 adults (including the teacher, aide(s) and chaperones.

Closed-toe shoes are required for all participants.

Programs are rain or shine, except in the case of dangerous weather conditions.
